TEEN OF THE YEAR, a platform for teens for self-discovery and personal enlightenment, offers each year a relevant theme for their reflective consideration. It invariably reflects the most pressing social issues of the time. At all the different stages of the event, participants and organisers, with the help of resource persons, discuss and initiate concrete action plans to make the theme more relevant to one's life. Even after the Finals, the theme and subsequent action plans are kept alive by way of community projects pursued by the finalists and mentored by THE TEENAGER.
Although all the themes of the past years have reflected the social realities of India, since 2010, TEENS FOR A SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS INDIA becomes an overarching theme for the next five years. Each year we will focus on one particular dimension of our social situation for discussion and action plan. For the year 2011 we have chosen SAVE ENERGY as our special focus.
THE TEENAGER strongly believes that if India has to be socially awakened, an enlightened and visionary youth is the only answer. There is no other powerful agent for social change than the youth of our country. THE TEENAGER has always believed in the ability of our youth to become a catalyst for positive change first in their own families, then in schools and gradually in society at large. What the youth of today need from adults is not so much advice, direction, regulations, etc., but an understanding heart that recognises their creative talents, ideas and a suitable platform to express that creativity. TEEN OF THE YEAR aims to provide this platform for teens.
We are sure all the participants of TEEN OF THE YEAR 2011 will take home a unique life experience which will surely enable them to be empowered and enlightened citizens of our country.
